FilmCan's AvantGo Channel










    Introduction

    What is AvantGo?

    AvantGo is a service that allows you to browse your favorite Website (www.Film-Can.com) on your mobile device using a channel that has been optimized for your device's small screen.

    If you own a Palm©, or Windows CE© device, you really should download the AvantGo client, and see what offline browsing is all about.


    What's Included?

    We are currently providing cinema showtimes (complete with capsule reviews, and Rate-A-Flic ratings). It is our intention to expand this service in the future to include Filmography details, as well as our FilmCan Reviews.


    Registration

    How Do I Sign Up?

    Users must first register in order to access the FilmCan AvantGo channel. This is required in order to properly configure the channel to access the FilmCan region that you are interested in (those of you in St.Johns probably don't want to know what's playing in Whitehorse).

    FAQ's

    Why did you choose AvantGo?
    After evaluating all the options in trying to provide a PDA compatible site, AvantGo offered the most flexible solution. By tapping into their existing expertise, we can "hit the ground running", rather than "re-inventing the wheel".

    Why did you restrict AvantGo access to the Rest of your site?
    As the number of Personal Channel users increased, so did the frequency of multiple HotSync's occuring at the same time. With each user grabbing an average of 30 pages within a couple of seconds, the web server was being hard pressed to keep up. We restricted access in order to keep the server alive for our regular web clients.

    How much room will it take in my PDA?
    A typical City (Ottawa/Hull) currently occupies less than 100K of RAM.

    How often should I HotSync?
    As always we do our major update for the week on Fridays. We recommend performing a HotSync somtime after Friday. Please note that we do update the listings throughout the week in order to deal with changes, errors, and omissions. If timing is critical we ALWAYS recommend phoning the theatres (phone number are supplied where available) to verify that nothing has changed.
