i rarely watched silent films of the old era; but this 'story about that era' i enjoyed quite a bit, as there were plenty of special moments caught entirely in silence as well as plenty of interesting ironies sprinkled throughout the story. worth the see... and ultimately, at the end, with two words, and with an accent... we can understand why anyone of its era might have felt 'talkies' might not have worked for them. nicely done. nice ending.

Absolutely wonderful. Superb performances and an enchanting tale. Beats the heck out of all these loud noise nonsense films and creepy subjects that we are subjected to now. It would be great if the movies returned to this kind of film making. It proves that you don't need words when the story is told so well. For doubters I suggest you try it for a real treat! Hope it wins the Oscar!
